Welcome to WestEdge.

An innovation-centered, urban mixed-use development project spanning 50 acres on the west side of Charleston’s peninsula.

Our Story

WestEdge was born out of a shared vision between leaders of the City of Charleston and the MUSC Foundation to revitalize and reimagine a series of surface parking lots into a thriving hub that supports Charleston’s Medical District and surrounding business community.

Recognizing the potential for significant economic growth, job creation, and community enhancement, the partners combined their resources in 2004 to set this ambitious project in motion.

The spirit of collaboration and innovation that started this project continues to define WestEdge today. Since the completion of its first phase, WestEdge has achieved remarkable success by blending the best of urban living, stunning natural surroundings, and an innovative business community — all within steps of renowned academic institutions.

WestEdge is a singular downtown Charleston district that embraces creativity, fosters collaboration, and embodies high-quality living.

Our Goal

WestEdge is committed to transforming underutilized spaces into a vibrant, integrated community that is pedestrian-centered, resilient and sustainable, with a dynamic business environment that fosters innovation, collaboration, and opportunity for all.

This includes developing new housing options tailored for medical professionals and students, as well as new infrastructure and resources designed to benefit both current and future residents of the Westside community.

As we continue to evolve, we remain dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all residents while supporting the local economy in innovative ways.

The WestEdge Foundation

The WestEdge Foundation is a nonprofit foundation created by the project partners to help steer the redevelopment in alignment with the goals for the district. It is governed by the Board of Directors, with representation from community leaders, MUSC Foundation leadership, the city of Charleston Mayor and the city councilman who represents the community.
